C O G N I T I V E D I S S O N A N C E

A brief discussion of certain discoveries in Ama'rane. Plot seed for something soon to come, after a week's hiatus :) There are quite a few quests coming up, some that I might be running :)

( The Indago's tone turns caustic. 'Such effects are well recorded, Sameron. Hence my concern that you had ventured within the Cove itself.' Vaysh flicks his sleeve back from one thin wrist. 'But I suppose none of you can be faulted for stumbling upon such a discovery.' )

The renovated Tavern opens, with free drinks all round. :X Some amusing banter in this log.
What can I say about ATS - it's a mud actually worth rping on.

( Jeremis stands up slowly and cautiously, checking his balance. He quickly glances around the room, as if to check if there's anyone watching. "Twirl!", he yells out before spinning is a couple of complete circles. 'See? Men can twirl too!' )

( Withstanding the ribbing with less than good grace, Vaysh sighs through his nose. 'I would think that's taking a rather narrow view of things, considering how many would blame their marriages for all the grief they could have been spared.' He slants another look at Nyssius. 'It's all very idealised really!' )

Sparing the rather happy couple a slight smile, Nyssius shifts his gaze to Celena and says, "Indeed it is. You speak as one who has much experience in it, perhaps...?" At Vaysh's statement, he smirks, and adds a succinct, "One might view your aversion to the concept as badly as our obsession with it."

Celena turns her stare from Nyssius to Vaysh, stating, "Oh, I don't know about that. I would say some of the best romance is far from ideal, at least, when you're looking at it from the outside."

"There are those whose best is brought forth by adversity," Vaysh remarks smoothly, one corner of his mouth lifting. "And I'll stand by that and say nothing more on the subject."

She seemed more bone and sinew and part of the landscape than living flesh, a carven thing, pale and attenuated, the walking-stick clasped in one hand melding with the ragged cloak she wore. Her lips, parched and dry, were thin with weariness, and where the lines of her face spoke of age come too soon to youth that never should have withered, her gaze was fierce still, young where the rest of her had been worn away by a journey that had never ended.

Beneath the dune the endless sands of the desert stretched, burning pale and moveless beneath the baleful eye of the sun. And she did not look back, but strode forth, her back steel-straight as when she had been strong enough to bear a blade, and set out for the far horizon.

The wind carried her laughter back, whispering over the dunes.

Erius asked the King of Vanyelar to send Tralisia aid, and ships have been seen sailing up to the coast of Ama'rane. The Tralisians look on - and give dry commentary - as the legionnaires arrive.

( 'Hopefully your wife is beautiful. If she is pretty enough she might be able to remarry one of the Vanyelarians after they kill you. Otherwise, she'll probably just be put to work in a brothel.' )

( Arek raises his hand in a mock apologetic motion upon seeing Cherubin's reaction, 'Oh, I am quite sorry. Some of you are also harlots, too. I didn't mean to impugn your character by calling you a thief. I hear your prices are quite reasonable, in fact.' )

~An announcement written in precise, legible script is posted in prominent areas of the city~

The city has come under attack once more. Brief but unprecedented, and thus no less lethal than many that Tralisia has suffered in the past, the attack took its toll of victims, as well as damaging much of the city itself. Many were wounded or fell in Tralisia's defense, as its citizens took up arms as well as its soldiers.

As many accounts have told, Lamishtis Kaervek, known as the former student of Erius Riesuts, was led into the center by a certain Cherubin Soleil earlier today. Claiming to have been blinded by a being of malicious intent, he gave the guards a disturbing portent. The details of this are unclear, but it is known that a watchman by the name of Tytan Mountain-Hammer was dispatched to investigate. The result of the investigation has yet to be released.

Shortly afterwards, however, a vortex opened in the heart of the city, and darkness fell over Tralisia and the surrounding lands. Wayfarers have claimed that the darkness extended throughout Ama'rane, and perhaps all of Eihydia. Creatures that can only be described as demonic then issued from the vortex and commenced attacking all those they encountered, slaying a great number before the guards were mustered to defend the city.

After several unsuccessful attempts to withstand the demon horde, a remnant of the surviving citizens then gathered in the Temple of Iniquity, and under the leadership of the priest Jeremis Silbeck returned to the center of the city to mount another counter-assault.

Erius' timely arrival coincided with this effort, and the Arch-mage managed to defeat the demons and dispel the darkness that lay over Eihydia. There has been much speculation as to the demons' origins and as to why they had attacked the city, but no conclusive evidence has been found, and the Arch-mage has yet to release any announcements to the public. Meanwhile the city remains in a state of emergency, and all citizens are to be cautious in the event of further attacks.

(OOC: This log, though fun, was insanely long, so I'll cut to the chase and post just what happened in between the fighting and after the battle.)

Since I've been too busy to clean up mud logs, here is the first of a series that I hope makes up for the lack. MU* logs are much easier to clean and half as long for the same amount of content, so bear with me. :P

Azriel encounters Althaia once again in Alexandria Castle. Log so named after the tarot card.

( 'It's up to you how you live your life, and if it helps you with locking away your regrets - tying up loose ends, so to speak - then by all means you have a right to go where you want. But don't forsake what you really wish for because you're afraid it'll cause you more pain.' )

Althaia encounters Azriel in the library in Alexandria Castle, and discusses her plans to aid Alexandria in the war. Nice rp scene if it was a little short. :)

( 'Regardless, what else can be done? Researching forbidden magic that may be our undoing as well? Or fighting meaningless sorties outside? For each we slay, two replace them,' come the words, strained as she clenches a bare hand, however slender that it is, into a fist. 'Maybe it was a mistake...coming back.' )

Azriel finds himself going to Alexandria when news of the Heartless invasion reaches Traverse Town, only to meet someone from his past.

I liked this rp, even if it was hard not to get depressed midway :P

It's been a fun year for me, at least we ended it on a somewhat positive note (reminiscing). :)

Series update:

Basilisk: Kouga Ninpou Chou just kicks ass. I watched Eps. 1-7 subbed and 8 raw. The series is probably the best of the three I've been downloading (Basilisk, Otogizoushi and Speed Grapher). I haven't seen Naruto but from what people have been saying on forums and AIM Basilisk outdoes that and a lot of other series released this year (it's supposed to target an 18+ audience). It kind of was iffy for me story-wise in the beginning, but ep. 8 blew me away, and the animation is high-quality throughout T_T. It's too bad fansub groups have been dropping the series because of Funimation's announcement to release it. From what I know a few torrents are still up, grab them while you can.

Caliah and Vandre are issued motorcycles for travel through Middleverse. I liked this rp for some reason.

*edit* Why do people think that wearing a bulletproof jacket will make them proof against /all/ guns? I'd like to spray them with Cal's MP7-type (which happens to be able to pierce through 0.6 inches of titanium with 20 layers of kevlar at 656 feet according to H&K) and see if they can hold water after that.

Poses still need a lot of work, I still don't have the same ability at imparting the mood of a scene and character as I used to in the old days *sigh* I'm tending to just describe one action after the other, talk, then describe again, in rather flat prose. Ughh. Give me some eloquence, please - without falling into the usual mistakes people make about posing their thoughts and other obnoxious no-nos of rp. >< Moss is a cool character. A librarian *pokes people*

So yes, rp on FL is not always about combat. Cal's just a combat-centric character. There's a ball soon and Mardi-Gras like festivities, including a parade and fair (June 7-9) so anyone who wants to participate should send their apps in before then <3

Cal gets patched up, and divulges some of the unusual characteristics mako enhancement has given her. This scene kind of put me in a melancholy mood for some reason when I was reading it afterwards (and omfg, flirty!nurse).

I would like to take the opportunity to say that I'm glad I remained in this
clan. It's been a wonderful eight years, and I don't think a mere comet
spells the end for such as we. The rifts that the Enigma has left behind
offer us a chance at a new beginning, elsewhere perhaps, in lands that we
have never seen before. Take the chance to enjoy yourselves thoroughly,
whatever your plans may be - whether to remain here, or strike out into the
unknown.

In the meantime Aschal will continue to strive as it has been. Drink
absinthe, make merry, and traumatise everyone before it's all over.

I'm somewhat relieved that I already began to look for a new game, but on the other hand, I'm pissed that they decided to shut it down before putting the new area in. Everyone who's had a hand in the building, could you try saving the descs of everything that's in there? And someone try to convince Caym to take over the game instead, it might be a happier trip for everyone.
